Localisation of devices and equipment
The Positioning API may be used to offer solutions where positioning is integrated into a service e.g. switchboards, security solutions or fleet management.
The accuracy of network based positioning depends upon factors like the density of base stations in the mobile network. Tests show that about 90 % of the mobile phones can be located within approximately 500 metres in the major cities and within about 10 km in rural areas.

Positioning requires voluntary, explicit and informed consent from the mobile phone user.
Reservation
The end user can temporarily or permanently block his/her subscription against positioning via SMS with POS STOP to 1999. The end user can still be located if calling 110, 112 and 113.Positioning can be unblocked sending SMS with POS START to 1999.
